Days pile up, hours, tasks, blocks that fit or don’t fit and the whole ediface is wonderful, teetering.

my amazing child is doing what kids do at two years old.

It’s a stunning, jaw dropping thing to watch a brain connect & see all the lights go on, one by one, day by day.

The dazzling little soul RZ has always been since her first breath, coming more and more into focus & clarity each day.

RZ’s first 3 word sentence was “daddy messy hair”, then “daddy race bikes”. Vocabulary like legos. Click.

So many things happening.. mostly good things. Job & family.. this blog is still left behind. A blog requires quiet, and moments to write.

It’s 11:23pm right now. I’m so tired… Skating again, the fittest I’ve been since RZ was born. It’s nice to focus on the dumb pain of skating fast in a circle after overusing my sodden brain all day.

But there is no time to press all the legos together properly. Things are pretty, fulfilling, but built in haste. I’m going to race masters sprint worlds this year again. Berlin.. Germany..

Might actally be fast if I can hold the lego tower together.

  1. good to see RZ blooming and radiating; good to know you are skating as usual; i started to wonder (worry) about your blog (block?) — we want more!!

    go andrew go

  2. Happy Holidays Andrew,

Good to see RZ and hear from you. Please try to remember, there are plenty of friends out here that just like to stay in touch when it fits.
You seem to be upset with yourself for not being able to spend the “right” amount of time putting the legos together perfectly! As great parents, that is how you are going to feel as you focus on the “right” things. This is just part of the on-going voyage of parenting… you have an amazing way of putting your view of it into words!
All the best to you and your family over the holidays, and try to relax and keep on soaking up all the great moments AND the challenges, they are all part of the spice that makes every day special!

  3. As you showed in the picture it is always a balancing act. Even if it crashes, legos can always go up in a different way.

  4. I grew up using legos, and GI Joes, and Transformers… the list goes on. I didn’t build many tower with the legos, but I built space stations and race tracks.

I can’t wait to read again about RZ’s expanding vocabulary- I can only wonder what words she’ll brilliantly thread together! It’ll probably be something to the tune of ‘Peter Doucet amazing speed skater cool nice gentleman hero helps people saves orphans idol completely amazing talented should win Oscars and Grammys impeccable technique incredible knee bend’.

I wish you and your loved ones all the best.

Keep on keeping on with all the most important things- with your growing family, with skating in circles, and with everything within and beyond.

  6. Andrew,
So happy to see and read you’re having it all!
Much love to Jess, RZ, the rink, the work… the bike, Evan & Susan.. the West… from me.
Thanks for the long, long friendship.
Hope we’ll get to do the skate in AMS and/or Paris in the spring.
    You rock.
    Ciao bello,

  7. Also… I could just stare at her four hours trying to figure out how it is she looks so much like BOTH of you. You really can see both of you in her. I keep looking at your photos dissecting the parts… coloring = more like Jess. What is it that looks so like you, though?

  8. What, no lincoln logs? oops….I’m dating myself. Happy Holidays to the Loves!
