Kermit & the Veloway
Forgive my silence….
after I left Milwaukee, I went immediately to the swampish climate of Austin, Texas, and I have been helping my brother move into a new house. It’s great to share backbreaking work with family!!!
Besides, it builds character to paint rooms & haul furniture up & down multiple staircases… After 4 days of this I am completely exhausted, sore, & having a great time living off of breakfast tacos, diet coke, and pizza.
Not every possession of my brother’s is heavy. It might not be easy being green, but Kermit is not as hard to carry as other items.

I will be back in my normal blogging habits soon, I have more notes on the Board meeting, and some observations about the incredible VELOWAY.
If you love inlines, promise yourself you will skate Austin’s Veloway before you die (This & Central Park in NYC). The veloway is truly an incredible place. 3.1 miles of perfect asphalt that rolls, twists, and is full of corners you can cross through at top speed.
It’s just for skaters & cyclists, and due to the variety of the terrain it does not feel at all like a Hamster wheel. It always leaves you grinning from ear to ear.
Lots of inline speedskaters train there every day. They are even having a low-key 5k speedskating time trial on it tomorrow.
I think I will race it just for fun. Why not? Gotta burn off those breakfast tacos somehow.

breakfast tacos are delicious. and the veloway looks like fun
Awesome photo! Of all the burdens one must bear in this life, Kermit the Frog has got to be a joy to shoulder - of course, Boober Fraggle would be fun, too!
It was great catching up with you this past weekend over “power-training nutrition” in Milwaukee - thanks again for the advice and support. Your encouragement helped me tremendously and I’m feeling better already. I will always remember your infamous response to my remark, “well, he’s a good listener.” Andrew Love: “Yeah, so is a Chia Pet.”!
Keep in touch!
Renee
Hey man get out there and skate that frog off your back.
Ooooo, I like those pictures, too!
Man, you should call me next time you’re in Austin, and you guys should come here for the BEST Mexican food. We’re “famous” for it, ya know?
Andrew, welcome to Austin, but if you think this is swampish you should try Houston. Glad you made it out the the TT this morning.
after some time in the desert climate of Salt Lake City, almost anything humid feels swampish to me… it is a lovely swampish though..
thanks for running the time trails Bryan, you can see the results here:

Great meeting and skating with you Andrew!. The veloway is an Austin gem for sure. You made me work @ the time trial..:) A person could learn a lot skating behind you!
So a speedskater walks into a hospital with a huge green frog growing on his back.
The attending doctor is absolutely flummoxed. He calls all the interns to consult, but none of them has seen anything like it in person or in the textbooks.
One of the interns speaks up and asks, “How long have you had this? Does it effect your drafting?”
And the frog says, “Well Doc, it started out as a wart on my ass. And what’s drafting?”
DON’T EAT A TACO BEFORE YOUR RACE!!!
Hey everybody, guess what? We all felt so sorry for the American short trackers losing their free housing when USSPEEDSKATING moved their national team program out here to Salt Lake City. I was about to offer them the cardboard box I used to live in, when I was still training and still keep in my garage for sentimental reasons, until I heard this:
Each short track skater moving to Salt Lake City to train will be given a living stipend of $500 a month.
I heard this from a friend who wanted to ask me, “Is this more or less than the long trackers get?”
The long trackers have gotten NOTHING for just being on the national team, and have gotten a stipend of $150 a month for skating World Cups.
THE SHORT TRACKERS ARE ONLY GETTING $500 A MONTH BECAUSE THEY ARE ACCUSTOMED TO LIVING FOR FREE!
Burn in hell, USSPEEDSKATING.
Andrew, thanks again for visiting Austin. Since your brother lives here maybe we will see you every once in a while. If you see Chad tell him the Texas Speed Club of Austin says hey! You’ve got great form….wish I could stay bent over for that long while I’m skating. Whats your ancient chinese secret?
Robin
