2 Greens
I kind of had an inkling that if I brought up the doping scandals in the Tour de France there would be a reaction!!
Oddly enough I wrote that before I heard that Rasmussen (the leader of the tour) had been kicked out of the race.
Thanks to all who are writing. I have some more thoughts on the subject, soon to be followed up on; right now I am chewing on what you all wrote.
But first, 2 pictures-
Urban Portland prides itself on being a “Green” city.
Like this green sign, that caused me much mirth, in the downtown district!

Forget bikes, as skaters we DESERVE our own lanes!! But interestingly enough, skateboarders are thought of in the same breath as inline skaters… hmmmm…
Less than 90 minutes drive from downton, you find coastal Oregon is not that good for skating, but it is extremely GREEN. These trees are HUGE & MOSSY.

Didn’t they film parts of the “Return of The Jedi” in places like this?
Again, more soon, I am thinking about what folks have written, & how the tour scandals are shaking out.
It’s a dark, murky, forest of a topic.

Sorry I am out of subject but…
Andrew,
I thought you said you were on classic techique at NAPA! This video proves contrary:
http://www.cora.org/2007NapaVideo.htm
I use classic on the steeper parts of hills, and when accelerating.. I think I double push about 90% of the time…. especially when skating fast on the flats..
I can switch back & forth at will, its useful to be able to do…
in that video pancho linked, that is me in the red, leading the 5-man break right behind the police motorcycle… its from about halfway through the race… also that is an over-excited me (in my ugly, sweat stained sunglasses) at the end, as part of the interviews..
its almost 80mb, so its big & chewy to download
I forgot to slow down my rate of speech when the camera was taping… the red bull I had before the start, plus my level of excitement for how well I had done, was fully in posession of my lactic acid soaked brain…
To view the tape, I have to say that all I saw was you pull the pack, then re-enter the pack mid way back, giving the eventual winner a nice big butt to draft from. I think I was right in saying that he wheel sucked you and broke you at the end.
Nice skating though!
Eric.
PS: if anyone is interested in viewing the reason why I did not skate Napa, there is a nice video at you tube:
Enjoy!
Andrew,
thanks for including me in your Liberty Park workout yesterday, the Old Rabbit was on the recov day however, so even sucking your wheel required more ergs than i was willing to burn after 3/4 a lap or so!
We had an interesting discussion, while huffing and puffing, [me] which included [the above] subject, which is one of the usual ‘heavy’ topics of discussion, the dp. i believe we observed, in a nutshell, that tempos and styles can differ greatly even amongst the ‘pro’s’, think of Roger Schneider, Yan Guyader.
