HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Right now I am testing some new, super-secret aerodynamic headgear, sure to take the speedskating world by storm.

The furry tassel at the end smooths the airflow over your back, and as it swings from side to side, it improves your weight transfer.

Actually, my right ankle has been in a lot of pain, one of those “It hurts to walk” kinds of pain. It’s a chronic injury I’ve had for years, and it’s flared up again.

Combining ibuprophin with wearing silly hats makes it feel better. LT nationals starts in two days!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!

  1. Well, imagine that…a silly hat improves the aerodynamics. And to think speedskaters had such a tool available to them all along!

Thanks very much for sharing your videos of the Short Track Nationals. I recently got DSL so I can watch such things properly and I REALLY enjoyed those videos.

Merry Christmas to you and ur lovely wife!

  2. how many hours do you skate a week?

  3. Hours is a more useful measure for the pure areobic sports like cycling/triathlon/running.

for an anareobic sport like long track ice, its more like lifting in the gym, WHAT you do has more impact than HOW LONG…

I skate 5 days a week, and am on the ice for about 60-70 minutes each time… Sometimes it’s just easy laps, sometimes all out efforts that leave me barely able to hobble off the ice….

so yeah, I skate 5-6 hours a week (plus a lot of time in the gym & dryland), but the devil is in the details…

  4. Try a banana suit, it slings you around the corners like a boomerang!!!

  5. 37,59, shared 5th place in the allround… but I didn’t see any results for the 5K, Andrew! ;)

  6. What most people think is that you need loads of time on the ice to work you to death, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Maybe in the past, choaches and directors used to think that way, until their athletes just kept getting burned out and overtrained.

My training (an probably andrew’s) is quite different, we do about an hour or a bit more of ice time to work on form and other things, and then visit the weight room for maybe 30min. depending on the workout and load. Then we do about 20min. on the bike to work the acid out of our legs.

But of course this isn’t written in stone everyday, we really have to listen to what our bodies tell us. if we feel overtrained or just dead tired from the workout, then maybe we should go light on the weights or not at all (my coaches’ advice).
