8:38am- The inside view. Ultrasound is beginning to show amazing detail. Jess can feel the kid kicking around.
I don’t really want to know if it’s going to be a boy or a girl. I want to be surprised as parents have been for eons. However I think my medically trained wife might have figured it out during this ultrasound visit.

8:38pm

It’s been two and a half months since I’ve been on skates, and even though this was just a Friday night skate ambling, I am going to be quite sore.
Cycling muscles are good things, but there is a whole other set of lateral stability & static effort contractors that are skate specific. I can feel every one of them right now. Jess was along for the skate. All the books we are reading say keep doing what you were doing before pregnancy.
A couple of new faces from the local Salt City Roller Derby Girls made this night quite fun, here is Nico Noir (her derby pseudonym) rolling through the sunset.
Sometimes what you see in this world is radically shaped by what direction the light is coming from, who you are around, what you get positive feedback from. Sometimes multiple lights cast multiple shadows.

It’s nice to be back on the skates. I like that light. A bike is fun, fast, but skates are flight & freedom.

Be surprised! There are so few surprises left in this world where, whichever way it goes, it’s good! We were surprised both times and I still remember the moment of finding out as one of the best moments ever.
(Looks like a speedskating leg if I ever saw one!

perfect answer to your ‘whither blog’ Question:
“flight and freedom”
take care
enjoy
I want to go skating in Salt Lake sometime, probably happen when Kori and I visit her parents next time, and umm when I have my new boots (just casted for them sat.) from the sweltering jungle of backwoods Missouri.
Tony and I are coaching the Hudson Valley Horrors Roller Derby team here in NY. It is great. They won on Sat. night and we get to skate with them at practices.
Is it just me, or is ‘the kid’ already taking after dad, his leg positioned perfectly in sprint-ready mode?
“Ready……..”
Wow, it’s cool seeing these new ultrasounds. They are better than the old ones. My oldest just graduated from high school this spring. It’s amazing how the accelerator-of-life gets punched when you have kids. Varoooom!
We chose not to know the sex of the baby in advance of Kid#1 (boy) and Kid#2 (girl). It was great to not know, and then be joyously surprised at birth. With Kid#3, I got lazy, and didn’t want to figure out names for both sexes. So, we found out that she was a, well, girl. Then I had the odd thought, “how could she be any different than [Kid#2]?” I intellectually knew it was a crazy thought, but I had no idea how different they would end up being.
Ah…it’s a wonderful journey. My advice for new parents is: enjoy each moment with your kids for *that* moment. With Kid#1 I think I spent too much time looking toward what was going to happen next in his life. By Kid#3, I think I got it!
Wow, that is great! Now I’m not sure if I asked you or not, but I was wondering if there had been more ultrasounds and how Jessica was feeling and all that. Remember in a few years, my dad taught me to rollerskate by saying I had to push to the side….
AH, HA! I knew I was not the only one to see that kid in skating position…let’s see if he/she hawks the line when entering the world!! Please note Jess has been skating too - it’s rather contagious and good for pre-natal balancing skills development, right?
Fun picture, looks like a powerful set of pistons! Go Jess! Enjoy the quiet and time to yourself now! You and Jess will have to be creative to get your inline time in. I’ve towed and pushed many a tot carrying device just to get some time on my skates!
Uhh, Andrew, you going to have to keep up with the blog, if only to share baby pics, you can’t leave us hanging….
Roller Derby Girls?
Chicks with tatts??? Ooooh yeah!
